Trevor Dolph, Walton Central School
From Trevor: I am writing to thank you for choosing me for 2005-2006 Tommy Sampson Scholarship. I am honored to be selected as the recipient of this memorial. As a student I have always worked hard to finish what Mr. Frisbee, Mr. Harkness and Mr. Wisse needed me to do. I am not a person who can stand around. Simply, I like to work. From speaking with my instructors I understand that Tommy was very much the same way. Currently, I am working for a stone quarry, working on a farm, and starting next week I will be working construction as well. My experiences in school have helped me to prepare for my future goals. I hope to own my own business one-day. Thank you again for selecting me for this honor. If there is ever anything I can do for you please let me know.
Instructor Ronald Frisbee’s Comments: Trevor has many of the same characteristics that distinguished Tommy Sampson as a special person. Trevor has a great deal of respect for all those people he is in contact with and he is a hard worker. When asked about his hobbies, he answered--- (f! like to work." Trevor worked in a stone quarry and completed a successful work study there. He also works part-time on a neighbor's farm. Trevor is looking forward to picking up work with a landscaping/blacktop company this summer. Trevor is a member of the National Technical Honor Society and was on the home coming court for the Walton High School. He also is a member of the Walton Football Team and is the Student Advisor for his FFA Chapter. Trevor's long range career goal is to start his own business, doing something he enjoys.
Daniel Ito, Franklin Central School
From Daniel’s Family: This note is a big thank you to you and your family for the most generous award that was given to my son Dan Ito at the BOCES awards ceremony for conservation. When we were informed of Dan being selected there was such a proud feeling that our family shared. The most wonderful feeling that was shared was when reading about your son and his love of nature, outdoors, dairying, and life. It was as if you were describing so many attributes of Dan. We wanted you to know and thank you so much for the award to Dan and his plans are to use the award towards his future job. But more than the surprise to Dan and us, we wanted to say that through the memory of your son, your thoughtfulness and generosity will help the future of young adults. Your kindness is so overwhelming and the memory of your son lives on in such a positive way for the future.
Instructor Robert Wisse’s Comments: In the two years that Dan has been in the Conservation Program he has always been one of our top students. He is always ready for class and does what he is asked to do. He has always treated his teachers and fellow students with respect. Dan lives on a small farm in the Franklin area and is raising 4 cows on his own; he also works on a dairy farm in Unadilla as well. Dan played on the Franklin Varsity Basketball and Baseball team as well.
Phillip Schaffer, Unatego Central School
